Exercise Your Skin

Everyone wants luminous, natural, beautiful looking skin...am I wrong? Throughout high school this is what I longed for most. However, I was cursed with oily/acne prone skin. My senior year, my complexion was a mess! Sometime during that year, my skin calmed down, but the emotional scars left on my memory of those days will forever haunt me. Since then, it has been my life-long quest to find skincare and beauty products that leave my skin feeling refreshed, healthy, and beautiful.

Just as we exercise our bodies, it is equally important to "exercise" our skin and take good care of it. Following a regular skincare regimen is key. With that being said, here are a few simple beauty tips:

Find a cleanser that works for your skin. One of my favorites is Origins "frothy" face wash. I love the way it suds up when you wash and leaves your skin feeling fresh!

Second, exfoliate your skin weekly. This will help boost circulation in your skin leaving it looking and feeling luminous. Again, one of my personal favorites is Origins Modern Friction. It gently removes sluggish cells, uneven patches and surface skin damage, mops up free radicals, refines, polishes and smoothes without the irritation. I love it and can't live without it!

Finally, follow up with an SPF moisturizer. I prefer to use one that feels light, not heavy on my skin. My all-time-favorite is Have A Nice Day, again, by Origins. It has a nice citrus scent that I love, and doesn't leave my pores feeling like they are suffocating for air.

Now, I wish I was one of those girls that had flawless skin and could go without foundation. However, since I am not, I prefer to use a mineral foundation. I have used both Bare Escentuals and Sheer Cover and love them both! Here's why: The light reflecting minerals blend magically with your skin’s natural oils for perfect coverage that's amazingly light. Also, the minerals are 100% natural and are infused with skin soothing botanicals, natural sun protection, and anti-oxidant green tea to help protect your skin from the visible signs of premature aging.

These minerals are truly a miracle! For anyone with any kind of skin imperfection, these minerals will leave your skin looking flawless, luminous, and beautiful! After using it the first time, I was amazed at the difference!! Not only does my skin look beautiful and glowy, but my skin also feels natural and my pores can breathe!

Now that you have read a few of my favorite skincare tips, what are yours?

I like to use just plain old, regular, white sugar to exfoliate my entire body. It's important not to push AT ALL, just move the sugar around gently and thats enough. It works everywhere, except for my feet (I use Ped Egg and then moisturizer on my feet, I recommend it highly. But buy Ped egg from Walgreens or you get ripped off big time.) Exfoliation has been the number one way for me to rid myself of acne (which I am also prone to.) My skin is so hyper sensitive I can no longer use even Proactive Solution's sensitive formula anymore. I use banana boat sunscreen for babies spf 50. For whatever reason it doesn't make be breakout. It feels a little greasy going on, but soaks right in after a few minutes. Then I do the rest of my make-up.

Those are great tips. I've been looking for a good face wash and exfoliater. I need some tips on how to get rid of dry knees. My knees are so awful these days and lotion does nothing.

I am obsessed with Origins Perfect World moisturizer and Bare Essentials make-up. They are just the best.

What do you recommend for getting rid of freckles? I'd trade them for acne. At least acne goes away.

Christie's comment made me laugh! If she REALLY had acne, I'm pretty sure she'd trade it back for her freckles! Ha ha! I never had skin problems until after high school. Then I had them big time! I remember an old man in the Dominican Republic drawing me a picture of what I should do for my skin, and then an old man I worked with later bringing me pamphlets for proactive. My pregnancy with Parker was horrible...my skin was super red and flaky. Right now I trade off using Origins and Proactive, and my skin seems to like it. I'm always worried that it will go crazy again, though! Uggg!

I loved this post. Seriously, it is something I am getting more concerned about. I was always one of those girls that just didn't try very hard to prevent the aging process and I guess since it has happened ever so slowly...I am totally noticing that I have fine lines and smile lines and lots of those awful brown spots! I'm sure most of it is due to not wearing sunscreen when I was younger and all the stress and pregnancy that comes once you get married! The problem is there are so many different products at different price points and I get totally overwhelmed by it all. Maybe I'll have to check out the Orgins line of products and see what I think :) I always tell my hubby that at least in eternity I'll for sure look gorgeous!

Dr. Fulton gave me one free bottle of this: http://www.betterhealthyskin.com/mandelic-acid-serum.aspx

After one bottle, I was sold. Nothing gets rid of acne like that stuff.

The only thing I've found to keep my acne away is Benzoyl Peroxide. I use a big bottle that I get for pretty cheap from acne.org. The product is comparable to proactiv, but lasts a lot longer. When I use it consistently (morning & night, and quite a large amount) my skin stays clear. It is important to use an exfoliating cleanser with this and a good moisturizer since it is drying. I've wanted to try the mineral foundation, but haven't yet.
